Changing my profile - swapping the shield for a photo

Hi, Everyone,
Swallowing my pride (and frustration) - and I have studied as many of the relevant threads on this section as I can, but without a dawning of the light, PLEASE could somebody explain in words of one syllable how to replace my WHITE coat of arms with a personalised picture.
I'm pretty sure that I've extracted the photo correctly from my files, and have set its reference/name in the rectangular box alongside the "browse" instruction when going into the "edit profile" mode.  But when I click on the button (forget its correct title) to change from the shield to the photo all that happens is that "Personalised Picture" is now displayed in angry red.
The photo is 111kb and is a jpg.
Can anybody help this particular technophobe...

Hi Keith,

the simplest way still seems to be to attach the picture to a reply, and then copy the URL (right click on image, URL is in Properties) to the "I have my own crest" in your profile info.

you may need to logout and back in before you see the changes.

Posted my query this morning and have only just got back in after a nice day pursuing family history in John Clare country in North Cambs.  I'll have another go now, armed with your helpful suggestions...

You will have to make the pic much smaller......I mean..much smaller
If you want it for your avatar...it will need to be 1 inch by 1 1/2 inch or less.

Do you know how to do that?...Do you need help?

I did call on my mate 'Rick' who is mod for Suffolk messages.

I have just got in from Suffolk Local History Council and need to send email to husband - I will check through all the replies re this 'mess'.

Probably have the technology available but have not made things smaller before - that I can remember 

I can 'fiddle' about with things and crop and cut around all that sort of thing, so I wll have a look and see what I can do.

If I can't sort it out (and after this, I very much doubt that I can) I will give you a call.

try this picture.

remove the present one first by deleting the entry in your profile, and "save changes"

then right click on the image below, and on properties to get the address of the image and use that address in your profile.

If it doesn't work the first time, you may need to remove the profile pic, and then log off and log in again.
