LONGMORE family County Monaghan
« on: Thursday 29 September 05 14:11 BST (UK) »
Seeking help to find any information on a Francis Longmore, who was born circa 1826. He emigrated to Canada late 1840s early 1850s. On his death certificate all that is mentioned is that he came from County Monaghan. In Canada he married Mary Ann Ward Stelling and had two children - Richard and Sarah. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Hiya Elsie,

One Longmore appears in Griffiths Valuation of Ireland. The Valuation took place in Monaghan 1858-60.

Robert Longmore, Fremagh townland, Killeevan parish, Monaghan

I hope this is helpful.

Best Wishes, Chris

Thanks for that snippet of information Chris.

I'll add it to the small file I have so far on this family...maybe one day it will all fit together. Longmore is not such a common name so there could easily be some connection.

Cheers

Elsie

Hi Elise - Francis Longmore was my great, great, grandfather. I believe that he was born about 1826 in County Monaghan - I think that his father's name was Samuel. He married Mary Ann Stelling in 1846 in Chatham, Kent, Canada West - they had 3 children - William 1849 - Richard 1851 and Sarah 1853. I believe that he had at least 2 brothers - Alexander (1811 - 1851) and Richard (1852 - 1926). Francis migrated to Melbourne Victoria in 1856 on the Maggie Miller. He returned to the UK in 1865 on the Great Britain disembarked in Liverpool. He returned to Melbourne in 1865 on the Empress of the Seas from Liverpool. His son Richard was the father of my grandmother - her maiden name was Janet Sarah Longmore. I would be greatful for any information that you have about this family
Rick
