SIT User's Guide: SEARCHING the Surname Interests Table
« on: Friday 30 September 05 18:43 BST (UK) »
Version 3.01 of the SIT introduced a new feature:

You can now enter a county and a place name in seperate fields.
This makes it easier to search for anybody with "same county" or "same place" interests.

To search the SIT at least one of the four fields must be filled

1) Surname
2) County (picklist)
3) Place
4) Comment

Entries in Place and Comment are case-sensitive (I'm still working on this)

Wild cards are allowed in fields 1, 3 and 4

'_' is used for single characters, '*' for several characters

e.g.
- jones will show any JONES
- jon*  will show JONES, JONSON, JONQUIL etc.
- *one* will show any name with 'ONE' somewhere within the name
- _ones will show JONES, BONES et

TIP:  If you are interested in a particular county, just enter that county and click on Search ..
You can then narrow it down using a surnam or place search.

PLEASE NOTE:
In Versions 1 and 2 you could only enter a surname and a comment text.
So any additional information was in the comment text.

Any older entries, which haven't been edited to take advantage of the new features can only be searched on the Surname and Comment fields

So you will probably need to search for any name at least twice, 'old' and 'new'

Please add any feedback on the SIT Help-Line. I will edit this topic if necessary.
