Hi Reedy,

The 1891 census for Ireland was destroyed in a fire in the records office in 1922. The 1901 census is complete but not indexed so you need a good idea of the address for a search. Most likely if they went back to Ireland, they would have gone to the father's parish rather than the mothers although they may be from the same place.

The parents were born 1845 and 1842. If they were Anglican, the later birth may be registered so you could search the birth index either in the GRO in Dublin or in your local family history centre.

Regards

Kate

Hello Reedy,

Have you made any progress finding your grandfather? Did you find other members of the family on the 1901 English census? I'm wondering .. could he have been a sailor on a ship in a foreign port? I think sailors on ships
in English and Irish ports were included when the Census was taken but I'm not too sure about foreign ports.

Chris

Most of Particks brothers and sisters are on the 1901 census living in the Leeds area. I do not think that Patrick was a sailor or worked in that field.
I cannot find Particks older brother Micheal on the 1901 census so he may have gone to Ireland with him.
I seems very unusal that i cannot find any of the family in 1891 but most of them in 1901.
Where was Partrick?

Hi Reedy:
I was going to ask if you had considered the possibility that Patrick may have died before 1901 until I reread your message and noted that he was your grandfather. In your research, where does he show up again? Same question about Michael.

Hi, I don’t know if you are still looking for information on Patrick, but I might be able to help. My name is Georgia and I live in Stockton-On-Tees. Patrick and Elizabeth are my Great Grandparents, their son George was my Grandad. My mum Norah can remember Patrick he died when she was 13, unfortunately Elizabeth had already passed when my Grandad was young.

Patrick had 8 children in total so did my Grandad so there are a lot of Reed’s and their descendants still here in the North East.

Sadly, my Grandad passed in 1992 aged 70. Kind Regards Georgia.
