Canada London
« on: Wednesday 05 October 05 11:30 BST (UK) »
Hi All,
I have a problem with the famiyl histroy i'm researching for my husband. We have one of his relatives on the 1901 england census living with his son but his son's place of birth is given as Canada, London.
The people in question are

Charles Robert Brinson born 1839 Blandford Forum
Charles Robert Brinson born 1865 Canada, London

Charles senior is listed as a widower he was a farmer.
Charles junior is married with children and his wife Margaret Thompson was born in London.

I can't find either Charles on any earlier census, i'm hoping somebody out there might have an answer for me.
regards
Caroline

Caroline,

There's a London in Ontario, Canada but I don't know if that helps.

Hi Caroline
I did find this marriage
Charles Robert Brinson, Married in 1863 in Montreal. Source: Non-Catholic Marriages in Montreal, 1836-1875
If you go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~qcmtl-w/mailinglists.htm#quebec and subscribe to "Best Bill" Fleming's mailing list, he will do a lookup for you.

Not many Brinson in Canada it appears so what there are may be connected. There are 5 in 1881 and 9 in 1901 Canadian Census' . The 1881 can be found on the LDS site and 1901 here http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/index.html (scroll down to National Surname Index and type in Brinson, it will show Brinson for all of Canada, apart from spelling mistakes by enumerator and possible transcription errors)

Here are some misc. Brinson

There are villages called Canada in Hampshire, Lincolnshire, Cornwall, Northumberland, and Aberdeenshire, as well as Upper Canada and Lower Canada in Somerset. (This info from GENUKI)

There is also a small area known as Canada Water in Rotherhithe - a neighbourhood in East London (modern Borough of Southwark).  There is a tube station there now called Canada Water.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada_Water

The London in Ontario is in Middlesex County.  Here is their Genweb site:

http://www.rootsweb.com/~onmiddle/

Unfortunately, civil birth registration didn't start in Ontario until 1869, so you have just missed out on that.   :(

Hope that helps!
