One of my ancestors is a Denholm...
She was Henereta (could be Henrietta and is just typed into Scotlands people wrong) Denholm and married John White.  They lived in Dunbar and had a child named Allison, who had 3 illegitimate children.  She was born in Stow as far as I can see.
Denholm isn't a very uncommon name though...  ???
Whites in Dunbar, Ayton & Galashiels, Scotland.  Taylors of Galashiels & Lincolnshire.  Solans and Morans in Ireland.  Mulvies in Clovenfords, Scotland.  Reynolds of Dunbar.  Dodds of Ayton.

Hi Bryso

We're all eager to help but need a bit more detail such as WHEN ?
If events are too recent they will not yet be available on-line on scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Rough dates will do for marriages and births. Exact dates would be a bonus  ;D

Hi Bryso

I used IGI for a quick look between 1820-1855 and there are a few dotted around.
Only 2 in Stenton:
Isabella b Dec 1840  to James Denholm & Helen Paterson
Elizabeth b Jul 1845  to James Denholm & Helen Isabella Paterson

Tranent:
Janet b Nov 1825  to James Denholme & Helen Smith

Oldhamstocks:
Isabella b 1847 to James Denholm & Sarah Cockburn
Jean b 1827  Agnes b 1833 to David Denholm & Sarah Wright
Mary b 1830 to George Denholm & Sarah Atchison

Dirleton:
Catharine b 1821 to William Denholm & Marrion Cockburn

Innerwick:
Isabel b 1831 to Thomas Denholm & Isabel Macracket
Jane b 1854 to Henry Denholm & Janet Burnside
Sarah b 1822 to Henry Denholm & Margaret Fortune

North Berwick:
Robina Alison b  1849 Anne b 1847 to William Denholm & Catherine Nelson Barry
Elizabeth b 1847 to Alexander Denholm & Jane Coffer

I found none for the same time period in Haddington, Pencaitland, Ormiston. There will be matching marriages no doubt but I didn't have time to continue.

I had to respond to your post because I was born in Ormiston and feel loyal to East Lothian and my brother worked for Denholm Shipping. Couldn't refuse, could I

Hi Delphinum

I meant to answer your post at the same time but got carried away.

I found no Denholm births in Dunbar for 1820-1855 which was as far as I looked. I only looked at the Tyne valley parishes. There may be others which you could find using the 'Hugh Wallis counties ' search.

Before you go giving scotlandspeople the blame for mistyping Henrietta's name, just wait till you see some of the spelling on the original certificates and Register entries.
There was no such thing as 'proper spelling' 150 years ago. People wrote down what it sounded like and if the person giving the information had a broad country accent then the poor registrar had to make the best of it. He couldn't say "could you spell that, please!" because a lot of folk back then couldn't spell or write.
I think you are fairly new to genealogy. Don't be tempted to 'correct' spelling of names and places. Record exactly what is on original documents. It may be the clue you need to go back another generation or find another relative.
Sorry for the lecture!

Hi Bryso

Have you used the HughWallis search facility?
  free-pages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/Query
I'm not sure if all the site address is there but you could find it fromRootsweb.
It gives all the Scottish counties and allows you to select in each parish a time span for births (number sequences beginning with C) or marriages (M) put in the surname in the box -top right and any results will come up in the usual IGI format with batch numbers.
If you have patience its great for tracking down other siblings from a family. I use it all the time - its free of course!
Not all births/marriages were recorded unfortunately but its as good a record as you'll get for free!!!
Sometimes place names are rather oddly spellt but often the transcriber didn't know the area and guessed.
Any other help you need just ask
