Family of Joseph Stewart
« on: Sunday 09 October 05 08:27 BST (UK) »
I am trying to confirm if the information I have for a Joseph Stewart,(born c1831) listed on the 1871 census (ancestry.co.uk) is indeed for the Joseph Stewart born to Joseph Stewart (b1798) and Ann Stringer in 1820.

How do I confirm if I am looking at the wife and children of the correct Joseph Stewart as there are a few Joseph Stewarts listed with birth dates around 1831.

Familysearch site has the following marriage
JOSEPH STEWART
     Spouse:     ANN STRINGER    Family
     Marriage:
19 NOV 1820      Saint Johns Old Haymarket, Liverpool, Lancashire, England

There is also the following

1. JOSEPH STEWART  - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 30 NOV 1831 Saint Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England

You do not say whether the 1871 census shows Liverpool as place of birth but if this is the correct one you could post this on the Lancashire board and ask for a lookup in the Liverpool parish records for the marriage. This may give ages of the couple which will help you confirm Joseph' & Annes birth dates

You could also request a lookup on the Lancashire board for a census lookup for 1851 & 1861.

Hi,

Thanks for the info.  I did not know that the younger Joseph was christened at St Peter - that my help.  I now also have it in writing that he was christened in 1831, so that year is acurate - thanks to you.  I have posted a request on the Lancashire pages for info regarding the Stringer side of the family - hopefully more will come from that.
