Brick wall - help please!!
« on: Friday 14 October 05 02:14 BST (UK) »
Brickwalls well do we ever get over them?

I am looking for

(1) Information of a marriage between Frederick, Robert,  Billinghurst, Browning born 1875 and a Frances Charlotte ?  of Portslade Sussex, England.  It must have take place before 1913 as their first child was born 29-01-1913 and in the 1901 census he is listed as single.  I am looking for dates and France's surname.  I do know that Frances had a sister Alice.

(2)  John Joseph O'Shea went to the USA. He had brothers and sisters  Micheal. William. Patrick, Julia, Catherine, Agnes and Augustin there, who had all left Dungarvan Co.Waterford and settled in Yonkers.  His parents were Augustine and Ellen(Terry of Abbeyside) He was a seaman with William's of Dungarvan but I understand that he may have become a police officer.  He was killed - died of his wounds and is buried in Yonkers. Does any one know the cemeteries or where I can obtain the names of them?
Any help greatly appreciated
Ire: O'Shea,  Maher,
Sussex Eng:  Browning,  Morley,  Haybittle.

If you have the birth certificate from 1913 it will give you Frances' maiden name.  By the way, don't assume that the marriage must be before the birth - it often wasn't!  In fact, don't even assume that there was a marriage at all.  Your best bet is that birth certificate and a search of 1837online between 1901 and 1914 for the marriage.
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.

There are no doubt many cemetaries in Yonkers - you might try rootsweb to see if there's anything about them - or a family history/local history society in the area.  Do you have any dates for the O'Shea family?

The 1913 birth, (if it took place in the UK) should appear in the gro index with the mother's former names listed.
