Where can you get foreign birth certs from?
« on: Friday 14 October 05 16:06 BST (UK) »
I recently found my gg aunt's death index and will probably get her certificate. As I can't find my g grandma's death index (her sister) I'm left with no option but to rely on my gg aunt. What I know is that they both came from the Russia Poland area and they both moved here after 1901. As they are sisters I'm assuming they grew up and lived in the same place. How do I go about getting my gg aunt's birth certificate if she wasn't born here? Will her death certificate disclose where she was born? Because if it does then I may not bother with her birth certificate and I could be a step closer to finding my g grandma index. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I suspect you may be better off trying to find details of their immigration and if there was one their naturalization.  I think both of these have to be done the hard way by a visit to Kew and if you are within the 100year rule you may need to prove your relationship.  You need to check first.

Dunno it it counts but we went to the FRC centre and someone typed in the married name of her sister to see if they had been made British subjects and they weren't. My gg aunts family could have been naturalized though.

Try this   www.gdansk.ap.gov.pl/english/index.htm

If you send an e-mail to Poland don't be afraid to use English. Someone in the office will understand it.
