1891 - search on address as opposed to name?
« on: Saturday 15 October 05 01:28 BST (UK) »
Hi

With the 1891 census, is it possible to search an address to see who the occupants were as opposed to searching on names?

I'm trying to find who the occupants of 3 Old Silver Mills in Sheffield were at that time.
The address is in St mary's Ecclesiastical Parish and in the Central Parliamentary Borough.

Thanks

matt

HI

Plain and simple  - no not possible, names, rough years and birth place always help even a name with only an age and maybe an occupation can help.

If you have info as to why you want a search on this address maybe that would help.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm looking for anyone by the name of Gibson at that address - there is a Lizzie Gibson at the address in the 1901 census and I'm trying to find if there are any of her relatives there in 1891, Lizzie was born in 1897.

Cheers

There is no problem searching the Sheffield & District FHS transcription for an address:

1891 census
ref: piece 3824 e.d. 16 folio 75
3 Old Silver Mills Clough Bank
(Sheffield South)

Walter LAMB Head --    40 surgical instrument grinder YKS Sheffield
Louisa LAMB Wife Marr 38                                            YKS Sheffield
Nellie   LAMB Dau            8 scholar                                YKS Sheffield

There are no GIBSONs in the other households at the silver mills. There are 27 GIBSONs in the Sheffield South district.
