Driscoll Clonaherty
« on: Saturday 15 October 05 20:14 BST (UK) »
I am trying to track down the family of Michael Driscoll - born probably betweem 1830 and 1840 (he is very erratic with ages on subsequent census returns  >:( )  father Dennis Driscoll, weaver.  Claims a birthplace of Cork, Ireland for most census returns, but also Clonaherty, Ireland.

I am assuming Cork is the county rather than the town, and maybe Clonaherty is a place in Cork - but I can't find it.

Any ideas on where I go from here ?

thanks,

Julie

Hi,

I expect it's Clonakilty.
Driscoll is a VERY common Cork name. See the great website Driscolls of Cork

thanks for that link.  I thought it maybe Clonakilty - but it clearly says Clonaherty - so wanted to check if such a place existed, or if it was just a confusion when being written down.  The problem is I can't make the two sound the same even in my best fake Irish accent :)

Well the townland database shows only Clonard, Clonav something and Clonakilty. He may have had no teeth!
