You very kindly provided the following:

Might be worth posting a new query, looking specifically for Joseph.

Joseph, 55, b Aspull
             51, b Rochdale
             58, b Littleborough
             59, b Oldham
             57, b Oldham
             59, b Huyton

are the ones I saw closest to his age.
--------------------------------------------------------------
I presume these were deaths. Does it give you the year of the deaths listed? If so, it will help me pinpoint which one could be my elusive Joseph Travis who I am trying to establish whether he was born in 1812. The 1841 & 1851, if correct, seems to suggest that was his year of birth. I am still trying to find him on the 1861 census.

Thanks

Hi Dinkey

I apologize for not being more clear.
The names and ages I sent were from the 1871 UK census from Lancashire.

If I recall correctly,  I believe the birthplace you mentioned did not match any of these.

Valerie

Thanks for verifying that this info. related to the 1871 census. The last information I had on Joseph Travis was the 1851 showing age 39 born Butterworth. I am trying to find him on the 1861 to see if Butterworth was place of birth.

I have a copy of a baptism for 1812 for a Joseph Travis( don'tknow if it is the right one) which gives parents residence as Crossleys Crompton which I believe is near to Oldham, so the Joseph you have advised as age 59 Oldham could be a possibility.

Thanks for your help.

Mary, wife, 57, dressmaker, b Plymouth, Devon

Elizabeth, Dau in Law, M, 31, Dressmaker, b Oldham
Annie, grandchild, 2, infant, b Oldham

Hope this is of assistance.

Thanks for the information re. the 1871 census. Sadly, it is not the Joseph I am looking for. However, I do have Wrigley's connected with my Travis's so I am sure this information will be useful to me somewhere along the way.

Sorry I had not replied sooner but I have been away on holiday.

I appreciate you providing all the Joseph Travis's born c 1811/1814. The difficult part now is trying to establish the correct one. As the 1851 census I found him in shows place of Butterworth Lancs and age 39. I am thinking that the christening 24 May 1812 Milnrow could be him. Unfortunately, I am unsure of the geography of the area so if anyone can suggest whether any of the other places listed such as Shaw, Royton, Blackley or Oldham would be more likely than Milnrow, I would appreciate some advice.

Unless I'm very much mistaken Butterworth is a Rochdale sub-district (on the Milnrow/Littleborough side).

That makes Milnrow,Butterworth,Rochdale,Littleborough all within 3-4 miles of each other. I can cross-check next week as I get the car serviced over that way.

Pauline

Thanks for your very kind offer. I would be very interested to know whether Milnrow would be the most likely place for a baptism for a birth in Butterworth.
