Does anyone know if there is a specific date when it was mandatory to record witnesses at marriages? Or did it vary from county to county and parish to parish?

HELP!!!
BATHSHEBA BOOTHROYD bn c. 1802 W. Yorks.
Baptism nowhere to be found. Possibly in a nonconformist church near ALMONDBURY or HUDDERSFIELD.

Hi Jill
I think it was mostly due to Hardwicke's marriage act of 1753/1754 when printed books of forms for marriages and banns were first supplied (certainly in the South) to the church.
