1841, 1861, 1881 Census - BURTON Wartling/ The Dicker/ Hellingly
« on: Thursday 09 December 04 12:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi

This is my first posting - so here goes.

I am looking for info on my husbands family in Sussex. Wondered if anyone can help with information on any of the following individuals - particularly interested in census info but all leads gratefully accepted as I know from doing my own tree that tiny snippets can be really helpful... We have not been able to locate Clocksmiths House The Dicker yet - but thats another story.

I am looking for
Henry Burton b 15 Aug 1813 Wartling who married Susan Grayling on 23 May 1834, and his son
Caleb b 8 Aug 1854 Chiddingly who married
Elizabeth Beatrice King 0n  26 Dec 1878 .

I have Henry in 1851 census living at Clocksmiths House the Dicker and at Horsebridge Hellingly in 1891. Caleb as a brickmaker living in Upper Horsebridge, Hellingly in 1881 n and as a Bricklayers Labourer 1901 census living at Leapcross Hellingly.

Would also love to hear from anyone with any links to this tree as I have other information I can share.

Many thanks

SUSSEX - Burton, Gray, Kennard, Sheppard, Breach, Grayling  SURREY - King

Hi welcome to the Sussex pages.  You might like to try the Online Parish Clerks website for Sussex they have limited information about Chiddingly & other parish's that might be of some help.

Thanks Jane

Found a very useful transcription of the Hellingly baptism register which has helped with another line...

Hi

Not sure if this will help, but worth a look

http://www.hailshamtown.co.uk/history/index.html

I always understood that Leapcross was where Hempstead Lane meets
London Road, which is Hailsham, but maybe the boundary of Hellingly/
Hailsham, has changed over the years.

With regard to the Clocksmiths House, there is an Upper and Lower Dicker, which might help you ?

Happy hunting
