« on: Saturday 27 October 07 21:33 BST (UK) »
Just to name a few of the names in my family the elstobs go back to 836, and  from the North of England and also landowners from the hamlet of Foxton and Segfield. and held land on the Thames in London. Ship builders and Estate agents in London. Wapping Stairs /docks and Fountain stairs on the banks of the Thames we have many names in the tree and the family started the tree back in 1960es with my Aunt .
I myself found much love in Family History. and at the age of 13 staying with my Grandfather in Hern Nr Hern Bay in Kent found that my ancestors found the town of Hern Bay and built the first pier of wood ??? and another ancestor died in Canterbury Cath next to the place of the Murder of Arch Bishop Of Canterbury Tomas the Becket and the tome stone is their today to show my ancestor a canon of caterbury and that why i am hook on family history..

Do you perhaps know anything about an Elizabeth Elstob who married Alfred Stebbing?  I think she was born in 1852 in St Pancras and her grandfather was George Elstob (listed in newspaper article as earl of durham though i can't substantiate this)

Thanks both of you for all your help

still cannot fathom how george elstob could be earl of durham if their surnames are all lambton unless there was a misprint in the article and they atributed the title to the wrong grandfather

will add the census information to my tree!

regards nicola

Lambton is the family surname and 'Earl of Durham' is the title.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_of_Durham

While not always 100% accurate this website shows the Earls of Durhams and their descendants- you could try checking each branch to see if you can find any connection with Elstob-
