Robert J. Scally, PhD, is the author of
"The End of Hidden Ireland: Rebellion, Eviction and Emigration, 1832-1848" which was published in 1995. The book describes emigration from the townland of Ballykilcline in County Roscommon during those years. Robert started out as a jazz musician before deciding to return to school in 1957 to study Physics. He soon lost interest in this subject and took up Classics. He succeeded in graduating and took up his new career in the History Department of New York University. When he was in Dublin in 1981, working on another project, he came across the papers of the Quit Rent Office which formed the basis of his book.
