Back then, yes - Shoreditch was in the list of parishes deemed to be within the sound of Bow Bells.

The din in London now, apparently, means the area has contracted a bit!

Google Bow Bells - Wickpedia has a list of parishes.

I thought that Bow Bells was St Mary Le Bow in Cheapside and not in Bow at all.

Shoreditch (my lot's stomping ground) was well within the sound of St Mary Le Bow.
East London:
Happe/Hoppe (St. Georges in the East)
Stanley (middle name Thurston)
Rondeau (Spitalfields and Salford)
Jones (Bishopsgate - Thomas, Ostrich Feather Manufacturer)
Wood (London City)
McDermott (Londonderry and Stepney)
Upcraft (Bethnal Green)
Chidgey (Shoredtich)
Grim (Bethnal Green)
Row (Mast makers in Wapping)
Spurden (Stepney and Pancras)
Glibbery (Bishopsgate)

Yes Tsu - apparently the mis-understanding arose through people just not adding "-le Bow" to the name of the church - but those are the bells in question.

Carried on looking (www.steeljam in search engine).

some of the pages are still around though:

Churches of London (with map)
http://www.steeljam.dircon.co.uk/churches/londonchurchlocation.htm

and a 1901 census page finder
http://www.steeljam.co.uk/1901census/1901.html

and Lord Mayors of London, from 1189
http://www.steeljam.dircon.co.uk/lordmayorchrono.htm

and others have been archived.
Hope it goes back online again  :)  (*)
