Thank you so much.
I assume Elizabeth was about 4 years old when she was christened at the same time as her younger sister Maria and I assume that Maria has died before the 1861 census. I will investigate and try to confirm.

I will send for the marriage certificate of Richard Stanfield and Elizabeth Cropper to find out his father's name. This should help to identify them on the 1841 census.
Thank you again. Yvonne

Hi Jim,
I'm the great great granddaughter of Richard Stansfield.
On this post is the info I have re 1861 census and the info kindly supplied by yonderpeasant re the 1851 unfilmed census.

I think I have identified him on the 1841 census as Richd Hansford age 25  Sweep living in Lad Lane. reference HO 107/570/14 page 12.
He is sharing the house with: -
John Elliot age 35 Fustian Cutter
Susannah Elliot age 35
Joseph Elliot age 2
Hannah Elliot age 2 months
Agnes Crowtone age 25 Fustian Cutter
Sarah Townson age 7
Phillip Hensha age 25 Fustian Cutter
Thomas Peck age 25 Fustian Cutter
Mary Peck age 25
John Wilson age 20 Fustian Cutter
Frances Whitcher age 12 Sweep

The marriage certificate of Richard Stansfield and Elizabeth Cropper
Married Manchester Cathedral 12th August 1847 both of full age
Richard Stansfield, Widower, Labourer, Lad Lane, father John Stansfield - Labourer.
Elizabeth Cropper, Spinster, Oldham Road, father John Cropper - Dyer
Richard signed his name but Elizabeth just made a cross
Witnesses Edward John Bird and Charlotte Sturgess. Edward signed his name but Charlotte just made a cross.

This is all I have on Richard. Going forward I follow their son John born 1849. In 1901 census he was living at 36 Hampson Street working as a pinter letterpress. I believe that he is still alive in 1911 but I have not looked.

Regards Yvonne
