Framlingham – VICE & WHTHE = 1814. Can I go back any further?
« on: Sunday 26 April 09 21:39 BST (UK) »
I have traced my family in Framlingham back to the marriage of Robert Vice & Roseanna Whthe on 17/11/1814, at St Michael’s. They appear to have had 4 children.

Robert Vice was born in 1788/89. Died Dec quarter 1875 age 88 (Plomesgate).
Roseanna Whthe born 1785. Died 1820, age 35. Robert went on to marry Bathsheba Maria Cousins in 1820.

I was wondering if it was possible to find the parents of both Robert & Rosanna and any brothers & sisters they may both have had.

Needless to say am very pleased to have gone back as far as I have. Any advice and help will be much appreciated.

Mary

Whythe / Whithe and Vice / Vyce are Framlingham names in the mid-1800s, will check through PRs and Lambert's tomorrow to see if I can find anything further for you.

Had a busy day with daughter and grandson home for a few days, will do some checking for you in the morning  ;D

Thanks Pat. Nice to have contact again. (I never did find the deaths of my three g. uncles - O'Neill). Have done better on Vyce/ Vice side.

What I meant - Sue - is you can't double check as there is no census back then.

Thanks for your interest & help.

May not be anything to do with your Vices (!) but this one is in the burial records of the Framlingham Unitarian Meeting House - prev. Dissenters Meeting House.

VOICE. Esther (Bunthorpe) wife of Edward Vice alias Voice of Framlingham died the 12 day of October 1829 aged 61 & was buried subsequently by me.
                                                                            John Esdaile.

I'm sure you are aware, members of the Vice family are still very active in the Framlingham community.

Thanks for that, most interesting, Hephzibah, (I appreciate your name! found in Is. 64:4.) My Grand-mother was Amy Vyce born in Framlingham. I have visited the cemetery and found gg grand parents grave (& also other Vice/Vyce graves which didn't connect at the time), but never thought of looking in Unitarian Meeting House!  I wasn't aware that Vice family members were still in Framlingham, so that's another interesting fact. Any connections would go back a long way I expect.
Many thanks again.

Last September husband and I, together with Fram Historical Soc organised a day course in Fram for Suffolk Local History Council.
We had the Unitarian Meeting House on our morning tour.  There are very few headstones around the back of the Chapel, but the Chapel is worth visiting, so simple and peaceful.

Non conformists have their own area of the 'new' cemetery in Fore Street.  Our non-conformists have been found there, whilst our CofE ancestors who were part of St Michael's parish are buried elsewhere.

Had a busy week with daughter and one year old grandson visiting whilst son in law away on business.

Having a welcome sit down at my ode PC and catching up a bit this evening  ;D
