Holy Island - Pilgrims' Path

Hi
Apart from the two that you've mentioned, there's also a Newbiggin in Teeside/North Yorks. It's likely to be the Northumberland one if it's a coal mining area.
Not found a suitable John on the 1891 yet, though

Hi Castana
I thought that you said that on the service record it said Northumberland and also Cumberland. I think I mentioned there that there was one near Stockton as well - so that makes three
I had a quick look for the service record but wasn't sure if I'd got the right one - have you got a link so that we can study it, please.

First page certainly says Newbiggin in the County of Northumberland so that would be the Newbiggin by the sea one
29 years and 13 days on 17 Aug 1914 but later says enlisted 5th August

I only see Newbiggin, Northumberland on the record, apart from where he was currently living/working.
Could he have used another name earlier in his life or adopted a step father's name
added - oops - now got to a page that says, 'Apparent age - 19 years and 10 months*
*is this a different one?

There are quite a few Newbiggins
Northumberland,
One near Middleton in Teesdale,
One near to Sedgefeild on the A689 road towards Wynyard.
Cumberland, but looking at the war records it says Newbiggin Northumberland so that the one it is.

Hi JR
That was discussed in the previous thread that was mentioned on the first message. The papers are definite about it being Newbiggin, Northumberland.

Castana
Having looked at this on both threads, I'm coming to the conclusion that there was a name change at some stage. Do you have him on the 1911?
I've been through all the Johns b. Newbiggin/b. Northumberland/b. Durham/b. Cumberland/b. Westmrland around that date and I can't find a suitable one or whose surname has been misintepreted.
