Is there a list of workhouses in and around Hastings? If so is there a list somewhere of former inmates?

Looking for My Dad's Nan Ethel Hutchinson and her siblings, her Mum took her own life in 1911 so the children all went to the local workhouse,

Hutchinson, Hutcheson.

A 5 year old Ethel May Hutchinson is listed on the 1911 census.  Is that Nan and have you tried to get a copy of that census showing other Hutchinsons that were with her?

A Sussex Workhouse site on the Internet lists
 Hastings—All Saints
 Hastings—St Clement
 Hastings—St Mary of the Castle
But dont forget the Battle and Bexhill Workhouses too.

Now got my brain into gear :)

For the time frame your looking at i beleive the Workhouse for you inquiries would be the one in Cackle Street, then the road name was changed to Frederick Road

Husbands Uncle died in the  Hastings Workhouse Infirmary in 1913 :(

Hope this helps
