St. David's Church Yard
« on: Saturday 16 January 10 18:23 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew where St. David's Church Yard is located in Glasgow.  I just found out that I have many ancestor's by the name of Mutrie, Urie and Furlong buried there.

Any information would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,

Cathy

Hi Cathy,
Sounds like it could be St David's Ramshorn Church in Ingram Street. It is no longer a church but the burial ground is there, in part. (Google it)
Glasgow & West of Scotland FHS have published a book of monumental inscriptions. I have a copy here, it is a very complicated volume!
There is one entry for Urie, "A large stone marked Mathew Urie".
One entry for Mutrie, "The burying ground of David Mutrie merchant Glasgow 1798". (Probably not a date of death).
One entry for Fulong, in the list of lair (plot) owners, "William furlong merchant - name scored through - James Croil; 17th January 1826".

Not much I'm afraid.

Thank you so much.  Where can I obtain a copy of the book?  I will look to see if any of the names you provided are in my family tree.

Thanks again.

Cathy

St Davids was the church on the site before Ramshorn Kirk as that building did not go up until 1824. The Ramshorn congregation was one of the three which had previously worshipped out of the Cathedral building.

Falkryn, is there a name for the burial ground?  If there is do you know if it would be on Findagrave.com?  I know a few of my ancestors are buried there and would like to add them and hopefully get someone to take pictures for me.  I know it's an old cemetery but hopefully the stone will be readable.

Thank you very much for the information.

As Lodger has said the burial ground is part of Ramshorn and has been known as that for some time now - most records show it as Ramshorn.

http://www.strath.ac.uk/culture/ramshorn/info/kirk_history.htm

A History of Ramshorn Kirk. (this has more information on it regarding interments in this particular cemetery than Findagrave but it only deals with the more famous individuals)

Unfortunately http://www.memento-mori.co.uk does not yet appear to have covered this area either.
