1851 Selina (Completed - thanks to Annette)
« on: Tuesday 13 April 10 09:13 BST (UK) »
Hello, I am doing a process of elimination to try and find out who a Selina Whorrall married from this list of possible husbands:

The marriages are from September 1849 Birmingham registration district.

John Banks
Thomas Bishop
William Mills
John Rixon
Harriett Holmes
Sarah Inwood
Mary Jones
Eliza Stevens

The Sarah that I am looking for on the 1851 census is from the 1841 census with her family in St George Birmingham aged 16 years.

Hoping someone can help find her.
Many thanks
Ewan

Hi Ewan

There's a tree on Ancestry which shows she married John Banks.   As a bonus, there is even a copy of the marriage certificate - married 2/7/1849 St. Lukes, Birmingham.

Hello Annette

Thank you for your time in getting to the bottom of who married Selina Whorrall, much appreciated.  It does look like the Selina Whorrall is a totally different Selina to one that I have notes on.

Ewan

PS

I don't have access to Ancestry to look at the marriage, but hopefully it would say Thomas for the dad of the bride.

Yes, the father was Thomas - the tree shows she was bp.21/12/1825 Little Packington, Warks., dau. of Thomas Whorrall & Elizabeth Ellison Adams.

That does make sense that Thomas Whorrall married an Elizabeth, so thank you for clarifying that information.

If you have access to this tree, would it be possible please to see if there is the younger brother of Selina Whorrall on there, his name was Charles baptised 1838.

Just recently I have been searching for him but with no luck.

Thanks for any leads on this.

Hi Ewan

Selina's siblings are shown as:

Francis bp.30/1/1829 Little Packington
Harriet b.1834 (IGI shows possibly 5/3/1834 at Castle Bromwich, Warks.)
Charles Benjamin b.1838

The baptisms show their mother as Eliza not Elizabeth.   The tree on Ancestry does not show marriage for Thomas and Elizabeth (or Eliza).

Had a look for Charles in 1851 but can't find him.

Hello Annette and thank you for your help again.

On the LDS site where I found the marriage of Thomas Whorrell it states his brides's name as Eliza Adams and not Elizabeth Ellison Adams, the name mentioned as the mum of Selina in her baptsim record, so I don't know where the person whose tree it is found their information from.  However, that piece of information is neither here or there to me whether it is correct or not, it is down to the tree owner I suppose.

Also many thanks for having a look for the elusive Charles Whorrell, my guess he has been mistranscribed or wasn't on the census for some reason.

Ewan
