Edward DICKINS - births in Surrey

I am unable to find the birth records of two of my ancestors in Surrey and would welcome any help.

They are Edward DICKINS born c1788 probably in Richmond, Surrey but may have been Kew.

and Edward George DICKINS born 1817 probably in Richmond, Surrey (from marriage and census records) but might have been born in Kensington London (from a family bible)

I already have a lot of records from their later lives but their birth records elude me.

You won't find birth records pre-1837 as that's when civil registration came in.

You'd need baptism records which might give date of birth as well, though not necessarily.

So you'd need to trawl through the relevant parish baptism registers if you can't find them on www.familysearch.org

Thanks for this response.  I have been through films of the relevant Parish records for Richmond, Surrey from about 1760, and non conformist records for the local area from around 1800.  Several family baptisms and burials are on the PRs but, unfortunately, there are gaps in the St Mary Madelaine PRs.

I have found Edward's marriage in 1814 in St George Hanover Square PRs but I can't get access to the PRs held in The Westminster Archives.  When next I am in London, I'll try to set a couple of days aside to troll through the archival PRs but that might be some years as I live in Australia and don't travel much now I am retired.

I posted my original query to see if any of my as yet unknown DICKINS relations have breached this brick wall.  Three of us, all sixth cousins and descended from three of Edward DICKINS' children have reached the same point in our paper chase.

If Edward George Dickins was born in Kensington then it might be important to be aware St Mary Abbot Kensington (the parish church) has not deposited its records which remain with the church.

Ancestry has images of some parish registers pre 1813 on its website (not yet indexed) but Kew only starts from 1800.

West Surrey Family History Society has Kew listed in its microfiche series (you can always use microfiches at libraries which have machines)
