BARNES - HUDSON research Tasmania

Hi there
I would dearly like to make contact with anyone researching the family of Samuel BARNES (convict), his wife Ann Owen nee HUDSON and their ancestors.

Samuel BARNES arrived 16 May 1846 from Woolwich, UK on the convict ship "CHINA" and received his Free Certificate 16 July 1852. (he also served time on Norfolk Island returning on "LADY FRANKLIN").

He married Ann Owen HUDSON 16 Sep 1850 in Launceston, Tas.

We believe Ann Owen Hudson was the daughter of John Hudson and Jane nee Davidson, born St Pancras, London 1834, but need further information before stating as fact.

If this is the correct family Ann's father John Hudson died 1837 in Middlesex and his widow Jane with son 6 and daughter 4, arrived Adelaide in 1838.  Jane remarried to William WEST in 1839.

We are of the opinion that son 6 was James Hudson on whom we do have a lot of information.  It is also possible that he somehow got to Tas. following the arrival in SA in 1838, but no record of this has been found - or of Ann Owen arriving in Tas.

Despite much research nothing more has been found relating to William or Jane.

If there is anyone with information on these people I would love to hear from you.

The marriage in Adelaide was at Holy Trinity

William WEST of Ramsgate Kent = Jane HUDSON widow of St Pancras Middlesex 21 Apr 1839 by the Rev Charles Beaumont HOWARD

Don't see any births to this couple in SA

They are not listed in the 1841 census nor are they mentioned in the BISA

Thank you Kris - I had most of that but not all the details.
Now I want to know what happened to them following the marriage.....!
Did they go to Tasmania....?
If their daughter Ann Owen Hudson b. 1834 (& possibly son James b. 1832) then maybe the whole family relocated although we know James returned to SAust. pre his marriage in 1860..
Hope someone reads this and has some answers.
