Christopher Shackleton
« on: Friday 27 August 10 15:52 BST (UK) »
My uncle, Christopher Shackleton (1907-98) was born in Burnley. He served in WW11 possibly at Alalamein. I lost touch with him in the 1950s. He does not seem to be recorded on the Burnley Honour Roll web site. Can anyone help with information please?

Was your uncle married?  I wonder if his widow is still alive and then you could request his service  record.  Even if not you can do a general request for details of his record.  have a look at the following:

He was married (to Ivy) but she predeceased him.
He had 5 children but I am not in touch with them. The children were Derek (b 1933), Brenda (b 1934) Audrey & Ivy (twins) (b 1935) and Brian (b 1941).

A chance to do so? You never know one of them may be interested in his history or have already researched it?

However, it is claimed that he was descended from Yorkshire Shackletons.

Might be worth doing the backwards research just to exclude this one and the relationship with the famous Shackleton... Would be interesting for us too!
