Looking for the roots of Henry Gee, lived High Street, Boston, and opened Bostons 2nd bank with William Clarke.
Born circa 1760 Henry married Martha "Fitzwilliam Mrs Brotherton" in 1784 at Boston.
he was buried in 1845 and she in 1836 at St Botolphs Boston.
They are known to have had 5 children:
Henry Gee b.1785 no other info - just disappears. Havent found a burial, hes not on any census, and doesnt seem to have married. I am presuming he died young, not least of all because the three known surviving children are well documented.
Martha Gee 1786-1874 (see Mary Gee) spinster of Boston
Thomas Gee 1788 Boston, d.1871 Brothertoft, banker and farmer of Brothertoft Hall. He married Ann Leman in 1822 at Brampton Sfk, she being daughter of Naunton Thomas Orgill Leman of Brampton Hall. They appear to have had no children, but I could be wrong. Thomas Gee extended the Brothertoft Hall (built cir 1780) and also built a school at Brothertoft which became the Parish Hall. He left a will naming "William Gee the younger, of Boston".
Mary Gee 1789-1877 Boston, spinster - with her sister Martha they were the "Misses Gee" who began what became Conway School in Boston. With their brother Thomas they appear to have begun the "Gee Educational Foundation". (NB anyone know what became of that?)
George Gee 1790-1790 Boston.
Now onto William Gee - the only one I could find in Boston and was certainly a relative, living at one point in High St and being a banker, was born cir 1837 at Freshford Somerset. I have found a ref for a William Gee baptised at Freshford 1836 s/o William & Mary Gee. However, there I draw a blank.
Im interested in anyone who is related to or knows more about the Gee Family in Lincs or Somerset, and also the Orgill Leman family. I must add here, that I am NOT related.
I am trying to do a history of families who lived at Brothertoft.
Naunton Thomas Orgill Leman (paternal surname Orgill) was s/o William Orgill and Sarah/Susan? Leman - whos brother Roberts daughter Mary was the last known and sole heir of the Leman name. In 1808 The Orgills were given the right to bear the Leman surname by the King.
Naunton Thomas' wife was Henrietta Jane Anderson d/o Sir William Anderson & Anne Maddison.
All these landed families spread their wings far and wide, so
any help gratefully received.
