Help locating proper Obituary
« on: Sunday 23 October 11 12:18 BST (UK) »
Hello

I have a great great uncle who passed away in New York in 1938. He worked for the French Embassy and was quite well to do.
Somebody kindly found a very short Obituary for him in the NY Times but I was kind of hoping there was a bigger one somewhere.
His name was Peter Paul Whelan (But he was known as Pierre).
This is the obit found -

Whelan - On Nov. 21, 1938, Peter P., beloved husband of Cecile. Funeral from Universal Chapel, Lexington Ave. at 52d St., Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 2:30 P.M.

He worked for a long time in Philadelphia and also spent a great deal of time working in Washington.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Danny

I did see that record but not that his sister was on the ship, thank you for that. In fact I don't even know what happened to Jose (Josephine) whilst she was in the US.
I have been concentrating on Peter so much Jose passed me by.

Hi Merjones,

Quiffdo had another thread on the gentleman - should really have kept the enquiry on the original to save duplication.

I don't think Jose was on the ship, I believe Cecile was headed to visit her sister-in-law who lived in New York.  Where was Peter born?

Thank you very much for that. I couldnt be cheeky could I and ask if you can see Josephine on the 1930 census and if she is still in New York?
She was born in 1879 Ireland. I do not think she married.
