IGI Sex discrimination
« on: Monday 04 July 05 09:48 BST (UK) »
I notice that for a couple of the churches I have looked at on IGI, only baptisms of females are listed. I am sure that the boys had their day in church too.
Is this because the churches had separate registers and only one has been transcribed, or is it because the transcriber was looking only at the girls, possibly for their own research?
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.

Census information is Crown Copyright. See www.nationalarchives.gov.uk for details.

Andrew,

This is common in the online IGI and is something one needs to look out for.

Many people (even including people who run LDS Family History Centres!) have tried to extract a meaningful answer from the LDS - but without success!

If you can get your hands on the old microfiche I understand that you will sometimes find the missing boys there.  Otherwise (and, of course, for extractions which have been done since those days) it is a case of ordering in the relevant film to a local LDS FHC.  Or, for Scotland, consulting the Scottish Church Records CD which is available at the FHCs and which includes the missing boys.
