Somebody is bound to ask: What is a Posse Comitatus ?

so here goes :

During the Napoleonic wars lists were ordered to be made of all able-bodied males aged between fifteen and sixty years who were capable of acting in a military capacity and were not Quakers, clergymen or already serving in a military unit. Each individual listed is shown with his parish of residence and occupation. Lists were also made of vehicles and draught horses, with their owners, and wind and water mills together with their average weekly output of corn and their occupiers. There are over 23,500 names in this unique document.

and again, before you ask: No, they don't do one for your county (unless you are in Buckinghamshire:

Buckinghamshire is the only county which has complete returns for the Posse Comitatus of 1798.

Although, re-reading that, it could mean that other counties have incomplete returns
