Mabwysiadol (adopted)
Wedi mabwysiadu (adopted)

Fostered could also have been be a term used instead of adopted
Plentyn maeth (fostered child)
Mab Maeth (actually means fostered son)

Hi WR  :)

As Sam says and, more generally, there's a very useful listing of relationships to head in Welsh on the 1911 site:

Many thanks Sam and Gadget for your replies.

Llansilin in 1911 must still have been a place where the Welsh Language was still prominent.

I'm sure that Welsh was predominant in Llansilin up to 1956-1963 at least! Some of my Llangollen school friends came from there (boarding in Llangollen during the week) and all but one spoke fluent Welsh  :)

My great granddad was born there in 1856 (d. 1930) and he was a Welsh speaker.

Yes I learned of it despite Llansilin being listed in Shropshire England in 1911!

As far as I can recall, all the places in the Oswestry RD were listed that way.  I stumbled across most of my Welsh ancestors (including M & D) in with  Shropshire when I had resigned myself to waiting ages for Denbighshire to be released.

I think that Glyn and Llangollen might well have been listed with Corwen, Merionethshire, as well.

It makes for more fun when searching  ;D
