LOCKYER Henry Charles John, b. Cork 9Aug1911

I'm trying to locate any information at all about HENRY CHARLES JOHN (Harry) LOCKYER, b. Co Cork 9Aug1911, d. Adelaide Australia, 8Jul1955.

The little information I have is from his (Royal Aust Navy) military record and as such is extremely brief. Not much to go on, I know ... but the problem is real.

I'm particularly interested in anything that might situate him in Ireland and identify parents and/or siblings.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have his birth certificate yet? it will list names of both parents (unless illegitimate in which case will list only mother's name). Looks like this might be him in civil index-
Henry Charles John LOCKYER July/Sept.1911 Cork registration district volume 5 page 77.

Unfortunately he was born just after 1911 census was taken but his parents might be listed in it (and 1901 census)-

I'm afraid I don't have a birth certificate as yet. There was nothing in the military record that identified parentage or place of birth beyond Co Cork. (Navy records tend to be like that ... VERY brief.)

I've just looked at the census reference and it lists just one Lockyer family - the family of Charles and Hilda Lockyer of Mount Vernon Terrace. Charles was a soldier born in England, his wife Hilda born in Jersey CI, and his daughter Hilda born in Scotland. Looks like the emerging trail of a military man on posting.

If that's Henry's family then Hilda Lockyer's Scottish birth certificate should list date and place of parents' marriage. See Scotland's People website for details on Scottish certificates and how to purchase credits to veiw them.

My great grandmother Linda Lillian Lane's second husband was Henry Lockyer. I think he was born in 1868.  He was in the military. She married him in 1898. Together, they had 6 children. One of their sons was named Henry Charles Lockyer. He was born in 1905 in Bristol, England.
On official documents Linda is spelled Lynda. Her first husband was Charles William Youdell. He died in 1896.

Any of this sound familiar?

It's all very tantalizing, but I'm reasonably certain of the "b. Co Cork, 9Aug1911" bit. It seems there were a few Henry Charles Lockyers around in those days
