Seeking English war bride's passenger record
« on: Monday 30 June 14 04:57 BST (UK) »
Hoping someone may be able to find the passenger record of Bertha Eileen Mary GRAVETT formerly BONNEY with at least one child leaving London after WWII. Her husband was a Canadian Air Force serviceman. I believe the wives & children went to Canada after the husbands had returned with their units.
Thanks,
Denyse

Sorry had no luck finding them on passenger lists, there aren't many around for that time frame.

I wonder whether they would all have gone on a Canadian Navy ship, there are no records on any of the passenger lists as far as I can see?

Wonder if the surname is correct ? Can't see a marriage or births of any children at mo  ??? Lots of info on family on previous visit to Canada in 1929. Fathers death etc but presume you have all this.  Perhaps I'm having a bad day  ::)
Shows on Canada Voters List as Eileen Burtch from 1958  ???

Not necessarily! One of 'mine' married a Canadian Serviceman in 1943 and went to Canada on a returning troopship in 1944, before D-Day even. No record of her and her son either on passenger lists.

Something seems to be wrong here.

As already mentioned family went to Canada in 1929.

I can find mother Florence L. Bonney returning in 1932 with son Norman.

1935 Electoral rolls for 261 Harrow Road, Paddington shows:

Florence Lilian Bonney
William Gravett
Eileen Gravett

So Bertha i.e. Eileen, was already married by 1935 and as marriage didn't take place here one can only assume it took place in Canada.   Cannot find William and Eileen Gravett coming in or going out of the UK.
