Hi

Looking at Family Search there are 2 births of interest. The first shows John Fowler born 1 July 1848 and baptized 24 Sep 1848. The second shows John Fowler born 31 Oct 1849 and baptized 30 Nov 1849. Both in New Monkland and with parents Arthur Fowler and Mary Jane Hudson. Possible explanation is that the first named died in infancy. You should be able to access the original OPRs  on Scotlands People. (nb civil registration did not start in Scotland until 1855).

John Fowler 33 coal miner b. Rutherglen, Lanark
Isabella Fowler 29 b. Leabranock, Lanark
Mary Fowler 8
James Fowler 3
John Fowler 10 Months b. New Monkland
Henry Fowler 16
Elizabeth Fowler

Address: Newcraigrow, Falkirk

A possible marriage in 1841, if the right couple, https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XT14-M32 Can't see any children showing for them though on FS  :-\

Hello Monica,

John Fowler was married to Isabella Gray.  His son, John Fowler, immigrated to Pittsburgh, PA and worked as a coal miner in Wilkinsburg, PA.  It appears they are the same people.  Thank you for your help!

Have you come across this before (apologies if it is your blog  :P):

...At 23 Binniehill Row were John Fowler and his wife Isabella (Grey) along with their children, James, John, Archie, Jean & William. John’s father was Henry Fowler of Lasswade (who was married to Jean Kerr). John’s son Alexander, who died in 1865, is not shown on the census. John, of course is a coalminer...

Isabella's birthplace is likely to be Legbrannock, Newarthill, Lanarkshire
