my family tree kearns

Hello everyone, i guess this is a shot in the dark but here goes. I wondered if anyone on here would know much about Mayo and the Kearns family. I have traced my great grandmother born Margaret Kearns in chester,england. She was born to john kearns and anne. I can't fin d Anne's maiden name yet. Margaret was born 1878 in chester. John kearns would of been born around 1852 with anne born in 1854. I am strongly thinking of visiting mayo to visit and hopefully find out some more information. Any help would be appreciated. Would my ancestors of come over in the potato famine? Was mayo badly hit by this? what is mayo like now? Thanks in advance.
