2 burial look-ups please
« on: Saturday 15 March 14 18:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Can anybody locate whereabouts the burials would have taken place for 2 of my ancestors:-

1). Elizabeth Mazzei - died 7 March 1864 - place of death: Holborn (St. George the Martyr and St Andrew's Western).

2). Evarestine Marie Mazzei - died 29 October 1912 - place of death: Holborn Infirmary (lived in Clerkenwell).

If located, where do I write to receive a copy of the burial registers?

Thanks,

Darin (Newcastle-upon-Tyne).

Just in case it's connected - a Mary Mazzei aged 29 was buried 4.11.1846 at St Andrew Holborn

Sorry - can't help with the other 2

Hi Carole,

Mary Mazzei is indeed connected.

I have managed to obtain her burial record, but it doesn't seem that the other 2 burials have been transcribed,

Thanks,

Darin.

Hi Darin

Very few burials in and around London took place in churchyards after the 1850's so you need to be looking at municipal or privately owned cemeteries.

However, local authorities are only just starting to work with the likes of www.deceasedonline.com to have their registers digitised and transcribed and put online.

All I can suggest is reading a copy of Valda's guide here and work your way through.

Holborn & Clerkenwell falls on the border of the 'City of London' & Camden and Islington so there will be a few places to check with.

I also note that there is a burial at St Andrews Holborn, but if there is any evidence of your family being Italian and/or Catholic, you shoudl also check out the records for Catholic sections of cemeteries or even as far away as St Mary's, Kensal Green
