Rosewarne Family
« on: Sunday 29 May 11 14:56 BST (UK) »
Hi all
Does anyone have any connection with this family. They migrated to Canada arriving in Montreal in 1926. We have Ada Mary Rosewarne b.1887 St Erth, Cornwall and her children Avenel Olive Rosewarne b.1910 and Joseph John Rosewarne b.1911 d.1969. I'd love to know what became of them. All I know is that they went to stay with Thornley Stevens (Ada Mary's brother). Ada is my Great, Great Aunt.

www.canada411.ca
is an on-line telephone directory and only has 13 Rosewarne's listed so that could be a starting point.

You have a death date for Joseph John? Do you know where he died?

Ada Mary Rosewarne also died in Vancouver, BC on Dec 28, 1986, at the ripe old age of 99 years.

I can look up the BC death and marriage registrations and give you a transcription of the documents if you are interested.  I should be able to get them done by the end of June if you're willing to wait.

Thank you all SO much for the replies - that's wonderful!! :-)
Could I be really cheeky and add another son of Ada's who I've found on our 1911 Census (he was visiting relatives so was not on the immediate family census). His name is William Henry Rosewarne b.1909 St Erth (I think!). I do know that he was already living with his uncle Thornley by the time Ada and children emigrated in 1926.

On the emigration info it states that Ada was a widow but I'm not convinced. There seems to be no trace of a death for her husband John Joseph between the 1911 Census and 1926 but there is one for Joseph John Rosewarne in Birmingham in 1943 - aged 55 which fits!!
Perhaps there was a bit of marital strife!! :-)

Susan, thanks so much for the offer :-)   Any info would be greatly received and I'm not in a rush so whenever suits you...............thank you!!

Thank you for the Thornley Stevens ..been looking for him!
Ada Mary Rosewarne also joined her brother George who had gone to Canada and at one stage looked after his youngest daughter Olivia. If you look for George Stevens and Winifred Hobbs on Rootsweb you will find his family and be able to take the family further back ..I have a lot of St Erth info on them.

Do you have any connection to this family:

Devon 1871 RG10/2080/54/19
Olivia Rosewarne 32 married miner's wife Illogan Cornwall
Henry 17 Illogan
Jane 8 Illogan
John 4 Buck Fast leigh Devon
William 8 months Ashburton Devon

1881 RG11/5196/96/28
Thomas Rosswarren 41 married Cranborne Cornwall
John 14 Buckfastleigh Devon
William 10 Ashburton Devon
Albert E 8 Eskdale Cumberland
Olivia 6 Irton Cumberland

My connection is to John [Vincent] Rosewarne who emigrated to the United States [allegedly around 1882], married  Minnie Ethelda Logan in Wisconsin in 1892, had numerous children, and settled eventually in Seattle, Washington.  He was a Methodist minister and also seems to have had some marital strife.  He died in Los Angeles in 1944.
