Emma Chambers born abt 1863 Bermondsey
« on: Thursday 06 November 14 10:18 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help please.  I am looking for the parents and siblings, if any, of an Emma Chambers.  She married a William Cameron in 1884 where it is stated that her father's name is George Chambers, deceased, occupation Carman.  From the censuses after she gets married she states born Bermondsey, and from this and marriage banns I have deduced she was born around 1863.  I have done searches on GRO for an Emma Chambers - from 1862 - 1864 3 yrs either side (I think) but no births are registered with a father George, occ. carman.  I traced a marriage of a George Chambers to an Elizabeth Brawn 1861 Bermondsey, and then searched a birth using mothers maiden name as the guide, nothing.  I am at a loss - can anyone help/sort this out for me, please.

What names witness the 1884 marriage, and what address did she give?

Mother's names are NOT on the birth index before 1911.

and how old was the groom?

No, not looking like the right family, as when the daughter Margaret marries Albert Phillips in 1887 ( widowed mum Margaret is with them in 1891) , she gives her father as William Chambers, steward.

So at least we can rule out that family.

Apologoes for late reply.  Hopefully attached is marriage bann.

GRO said there were no Emma Chambers, father George, in my recent searches, 3 years either side of 1862 and i think to 1864 - so this should have included those mentioned.

Thank you for looking

George Chambers (31, bach, carman) & Elizabeth Brawn (24, spinster) who married on 24.11.1861 at St Paul Bermondsey certainly look worth investigating as possible parents.

Mutual address: Grange Walk.

George's father: John Chambers, shoemaker

Elizabeth's father: Thomas Brawn, labourer.

Ayr: Barnes, Wylie
Caithness: MacGregor
Essex: Eldred (Pebmarsh)
Gloucs: Timbrell (Winchcomb)
Hants: Stares (Wickham)
Lincs: Maw, Jackson (Epworth, Belton)
London: Pierce
Suffolk: Markham (Framlingham)
Surrey: Gosling (Richmond)
Wilts: Matthews, Tarrant (Calne, Preshute)
Worcs: Milward (Redditch)
Yorks: Beaumont, Crook, Moore, Styring (Huddersfield); Middleton (Church Fenton); Exley, Gelder (High Hoyland); Barnes, Birchinall (Sheffield); Kenyon, Wood (Cumberworth/Denby Dale)

Hi, sorry for late reply.

I did a search for a birth with an Emma Chambers whose mothers name was Elizabeth Brawn and that came up inconclusive.

I ordered the certificate for the St Olave register Oct 1863 - the dates marry up with the baptism of an Emma Chambers - birth dates etc., except it only has  Margaret Chambers down as a parent - no mention of George Chambers.  I am at a loss on what to do next.

The birth certificate states:

Date of Birth: 17th October 1863
Address: 18 Charles Street
Mother: Margaret Chambers
Signature: Mark of Margaret Chambers mother 18 Charles Street, St John's, Southwark
Registered: 13 November 1863
Reg District: St Olave Southark
Sub District of: St John Horsleydown in the County of Surrey

Anybody got any clues!  As I've said before from Emma's marriage banns it states George is deceased in 1884.  She gets married in Walworth to a William Cameron.
I cannot find her, her mother or her father in 1871 or 1881.  Up to last week I had not been able to find her in 1911 but I have (Claybury Asylum).  Can anybody through any light on where I should look or what I should possibly purchase.

Any suggestions greatly received.
Jackie
