Charterhouse ancestors
« on: Sunday 03 August 14 09:39 BST (UK) »
If you discover that an ancestor was a resident of the Hull Charterhouse I would be glad to hear about it.  I might be able to help, having done a huge amount of research into the "hospital"; but I'm also keen to document as many residents as possible.
There's some background on our website at http://www.hullcharterhouse.weebly.com/
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.

Hi,

One of my relatives, Robert Sleight, was resident in Charterhouse around 1900, sure he appears on at least one census as a resident there (don't have my records to hand with exact details). If I remember correctly it was listed as Gods own hospital, Charterhouse.

Thanks Kev, more details would be appreciated.  On which censuses does he show up at the Charterhouse?  I could probably find out when he actually entered.  What was his job before retirement?
The other names for the Charterhouse were "God's House hospital" or just God's House.

Hi again,

Robert Sleight was on the 1891 & 1901 census, resident in Charterhouse. 1881 he was living elsewhere, his wife died 1879.
He was born around 1815, died 1908. He was a greengrocer/shopkeeper most of his life.
