Who are Margaret's Parents?
« on: Wednesday 09 April 14 09:34 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I have a  Margaret NICHOLL born around 1866 in Armagh, she married Thomas LEWERS also form Armagh, I would appreciate some help in locating her parents and siblings.

I am researching the NICHOLL family and Margaret hasn't come up in any of them....so any help would be a bonus.

Thank You

Kind Regards

Cienna

Margarets husband Thomas Lewers seems to have died as in 1911 census she is now Margaret Farley.
Marriage in December 1907 Reg District Armagh Margaret Lewers/Margaret NICHOLLS to John Farley Vol 1 Page 45. Marriage Cert might show her fathers name :)

Are you sure that you have the correct year?
There is a marriage match of a Margaret NICHOL to a Thomas LEWERS in 1881

This could then be Margaret in 1901 with her sister-in-law? Sarah Brooks
however, at age 36 she would have been born approx. 1875
but miscalculations in ages were not unusual

But it does tie in with the 1911 census return as Margaret FARLEY as found by ballydw

If the 1907 marraige details match the 1881 details you should have the father's name at least
There is a death for Thomas LEWERS in Armagh 1904 Apr-Jun aged 54 Volume1 Page 31

From a search on Rootsireland.ie this could be Robert as there is a marriage in Newry & Mourne Presbyterian Church in 1881 that looks a good match

editted to add
As there was a Robert listed as her son in 1911 I looked for him in 1901
This is a good match on the 1901 census
which shows a Robert LEWERS with his grandparents

Also this could be the connection with Sarah BROOKS - marriage of Sarah LEWERS to Benjamin BROOKS

If Robert Lewers is correct as her son in 1911
Then Robert and Mary Nichols shown as his grandparents in 1901 are Margaret's parents

Her marriage certificates will give her father's name and possibly occupation and more detail

Griffiths Valuation for Robert NICHOLL at same address as 1901 census

Tomogrow, Mullyash is right on the border of Monaghan with Armagh and Down
It would have been in the Castleblayney Civil District

There is a death in 1906 Jan-Mar Castleblayney V1/P395 of Robert NICHOLL aged 72

I think that the son shown in 1901, William, is using the name NICHOLSON in 1911 – Link to census
where he is in the same townland and married and living with his family and mother
He possibly married Susan HUGHES in 1906 Jul-Sep Castleblayney V1/P635

He would have been Margaret’s brother if these tentative connections are proven by further research

There are a number of possibilities for the marriage of Robert and a Mary
and it must also be considered that Mary was a second wife
This would mean that Margaret's mother could be a name other than Mary

Thank you myluck, this family have been very hard to follow with all the differnt name changes, it's posing to be very difficult with Nickle, Nichol, Nicholson, Nichols and Nicholl so working around all of them and finding bits and pieces to add together....just hope I can get it right.

Regards
