What happened to Walter after 1901?
« on: Thursday 14 August 14 00:29 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me solve the puzzle?

Walter Richards was born in 1899 in Oldham.
He appears on the 1901 census with his adoptive family George and Elizabeth Goodwin and their children in West Derby, Liverpool.
After that I can't find any trace of him.
Does anybody have any idea what happened to him?

I wonder if he changed his name to Goodwin but haven't been able to locate a Walter Goodwin or any of the Goodwin family in 1911.

The Goodwin family can be found on the 1911 census but Walter isn't on there with them.

Hi,

I've searched under both names i.e. Richards and Goodwin and have not found anything. I was hoping that someone might have found something that I had missed.

Thanks to everyone for looking.

There is a Walter Richards commemorated on the LOOS Memorial.
It doesn't give an age

Rank: Rifleman
Service No: 260364
Date of Death: 25/08/1918
Regiment/Service: The King's (Liverpool Regiment)
1st/5th Bn.

added: I don't think he is the one as he was in the Royal Fusiliers before he joined the Kings

Hi Michelle,

Do you know how Walter came to be adopted, did his parents die and do you know if he had any siblings?

Hi,

I've no idea how Walter came to be adopted, it may have been through the church. There is no mention of any other family as far as I know. He was part of my mother-in-laws family, but none of my in laws knew anything about him. The Goodwins' are proving to be a bit difficult for me. The in laws will on occasion give me a little snippet of information which is really important but they don't realise how important it is.
