Elephant and Castle
« on: Sunday 29 June 14 23:33 BST (UK) »
Can anyone assist?
I am trying to trace a Peter o'Connor born c1896 in Cork Ireland. He was married in Ireland in 1920 and was discharged from the army in 1924.
He came to England and was living near Elephant and Castle early 1950's.
I believe that he may have had a second family in London and died aged about 80.
I would like to know which electoral area would be covered by this address and also which cemetery he might have been buried in?
Have been unable to find a record of his death or anything else about him.
Any guidance as to a way forward greatly appreciated

If that is him, you probably need to get the certificate to find his address as there are several cemeteries in and around the borough of Lambeth. If he died as late as 1976, the chances are that he was cremated rather than buried, especially in London. A possible cemetery could be West Norwood Cemetery and Crematorium.

Thanks both for your prompt replies. I have this death cert but it doesn't match my Peter. I believe it relates to another Peter who was born in a different part of Ireland. The Peter I am looking for was born 18/10/1896.
I know he lived near elephant and castle area in 1952 because two of his daughters visited him there but one is now dead and the other one has no idea of the address.
He could have obviously moved from that area but there are no other London records that come close.
thanks again , the search will continue. I am determined to find him!!

I believe it would have been the Southwark district?

In 1951 there's a Peter O'Connor at 15 Hampton Street SE17,in an area with a lot of other Irish names.

Yes, should be Southwark if it was really close to E & C, though the Lambeth boundary is not far away to the west/southwest.  Obviously a person living around there might also have died away from home, e.g. at St Thomas' Hospital (Lambeth).

According to the electoral registers there was a Peter and Margaret O'Connell living at 15, Glenwood Road, SE6 in 1950. That comes under Vauxhall, Lambeth.

Does that ring any bells?

There's also one on 1951 in Gurney Street SE17 in what could be a boarding house.

KIngs College Hospital is also near there.
