Quinn's Band
« on: Tuesday 07 January 14 12:54 GMT (UK) »

Alex Quinn and Hugh Quinn born around 1860’s or 1870’s were brothers from Convoy, Co. Donegal and were fiddlers. Alex married a widow woman a Mrs Devlin who already had two sons; they had two more sons (one of whom may have been called Joe) and formed “Quinn’s Band”.

They may have lived in Strabane, or Drumquin Co. Tyrone.

Is there anyone out there connected?

I now have more precise information:
Alex Quinn married Catherine Scott and they had two children Joe and Paddy.
His first wife died and he married a widow Mrs Catherine Devlin whose children were: Jean; Denis and Tom.
Alex formed a band consisting of himself, Joe and Paddy, and Denis and Tom Devlin and they were know as “Quinn’s Band”, they played music around the 1930’s in the Strabane area.
Subsequently Alex moved to Glasgow where he died around 1958.
Would still be glad of further information.

I'm not connected, but here is some speculative info (and REALLY speculative, for some dates don't fit, but I'm assuming everything is in the air):

Alex Quinn: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FYN9-ZXQ

Catherine Devlin: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FYN3-2MF

The RootsIreland website has a 1919 civil registration record for a marriage between an Alex Quinn and Catherine Devlin, the county is Donegal and "parish / district" states "CASTLEFIN (CP)". The record content is "pay to view".

The RootsIreland website index brings back the following baptismal / birth "hits" for Alex Quinn and Catherine Scott:

- Hugh Patrick, 1908 County Tyrone
- Theresa, 1910 County Donegal

Is this the family in 1911?

The closest I can get to a possible marriage for Alex/Alexander Quinn and a Scott is an Alex Quinn to Sophia Scott in Fermanagh (but critically, both from Strabane) on 1 March 1908, his father was Hugh Quinn, her's was Patrick Scott.  Doesn't fit very well, but is there any chance Sophia Scott was a.k.a. Catherine?

Any other ideas from readers of this OP???

Gaffy,
I found the Quinn/Sophia Scott marriage as well but couldn't confirm if it was the correct one.

Have just concluded that "Catherine" was Sophia, their son was called Hugh Patrick.
