A bit of info on Chester Arthur, according to this he had 6 sisters and a brother.

Thanks for your replies. I will do as you suggest.

I have been doing some background reading into Chester Alan Arthur. There were allegations at the time, into his past......that he was not a naturalised American citizen (his father took out American citizenship when he was @14 so was of English birth) and therefore could not stand for Presidency.

For Charles to marry a cousin of Chester's, his father's brother would have to have had a daughter named Jane (if a first cousin)....so I suppose it's the brother's family we need to research.

Interesting to note that both William Arthur & Charles Haines were Baptist preachers

Lulu/Luliu/Lundie/Lulla Shellington married my cousin Bill's grandfather Tom Bell, as I found out from rootschat, on 6/4/1894 Niagara Falls, New York. Tom was b in 1868 in Castleford, Yorkshire

He must have sailed to the USA sometime between 1881 and 1894. I think his occupation was a clerk of some kind, though in 1911 he  is a steward on a fishing boat in Grimsby - I always thought he was a grocer!

They left for Liverpool in 1904 with 2 children and remained in Grimsby, England for the rest of their lives

The connection between the Shellingtons and the Haines (my grandmother's family) is that Tom's son George Bell (b 1898 Niagara Falls) m my grandmother's sister Eva Haines (recently d aged 105)
Their son Bill was given the second Christian name of Shellington)
