Alice and Jane Roberts - Trawsfynydd
« on: Wednesday 19 February 14 14:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I'm looking for any info on the family of Alice (b. c 1806) and Jane (b. c 1814) Roberts in Trawsfynydd. Both married before 1839, so I've got no census info on the original family. The only possible lead is in the 1851 census Jane had a "visitor" Winifred (difficult to make out on the original document) Roberts (age 77, from Trawsfynydd) living with her - this may be her mother!

I've tried the BT's for Trawsfynydd with no luck matching parents for the two of them.

Hwyl,
Alan

Hi

My records have a baptism for a Jane Roberts 27 Feb 1814, Trawsfynydd
Parents - Ellis and Gwen (which would fit with the Winifred)

Thanks for the info Gadget.

It is Alice that I'm interested in. She married Evan Davies of Maentwrog in 1837 (trying to track him down as well, but one thing at atime!), and set up home in Ffestniog. Census for 1841 at no 26 Pant Llwyd (?), 1851 & 61 at no 1 Club House (?),  1871 at Tyn y Maes.

In 1881 she is a widow, living with her sister Jane Holt (also a widow) who kept a lodging house (Doll?) in Machynleth.

In 1891, she has moved to live with her daughter Mary at Tan y Bwlch in Clynnog.

Diolch,

Alan

Hi Alan

Just looking through your family.

I notice that on the 1861 Jane has a son named Ellis , aged 13 (born Trawsfynydd). This maybe significant in choosing between the two births that I've given.

I'll spend more time looking later this evening. What were Alice's children named - in date order?

Hi Gadget,

Alice's children were David b 1838, Mary b 1841 and Robert b 1844.

Don't know a lot about the two boys apart from the info on the census returns.

Mary is my 2nd great grandmother. She married Rees Evans in 1863 and stayed in Ffestiniog before moving to Clynnog and Llanllyfni.

Hope this helps,

Diolch,

Alan

Hello again

A bit more from my rambles!

The second family that I linked to seem to not be the ones:

1841
Fron Haul, Trawsfynydd
HO107/1427/18/35/19
William Robert, 50 , tailor
Gwen, 55
Jane, 20
William, 20, Quarryman
John, 15, Tailor

This looks like the first family:

1841
Maengwyn Street, Trawsfynydd
HO107/1427/18/31/11
Ellis Robert, 65, labourer
Gwen, 65
Robert, 25, shoemaker
All b. County

Age would fit with the Winifred, aged 77 in the 1851 (given the 1841 age  rounding)

Wondering if Alice might be baptized as Alice Ellis  (patronymics)

Off again  :)
