What Happened to Mary Carabine
« on: Wednesday 12 March 14 22:22 GMT (UK) »
Mary was my great aunt and she was born in 1892 Co. Sligo, the story is that she committed suicide by jumping of a building, but how true this is I don't know, but this is all I know about her.

Can some one point me the right direction to find out more about her life and when, where and how she did die.

Thank you

Have you found her in any census?

For Irish censuses (1901 and 1911): http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/
For UK census: FamilySearch, Ancestry, FindMyPast, GenesReunited, etc.

Whatt were her parent's names?
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Hi

I have looked at the census before and like you I couldn't find her on the 1911, but the family you found on the 1901 are my family and James is my grandfather, but I never new him.
He had four sisters and three of them went to America, and with the Irish genealogy being so limited I couldn't even find out if she got married or a death certificate.

Many thanks
Maggie

The area of Culleens in on the border with Mayo
All of the family's births seem to be registered in Swineford Co. Mayo

There is one death and a marriage of for a Mary Carabine that could be a match
that you may not have looked at before and suggest you invest in the certs as proof

The marriage may be a good place to start as the 1911 census states that
John and Mary had 5 children and that all were still living

You are possibly aware that Bridget emigrated to Philidelphia in 1910
Could Mary also have travelled out to the US and her accident occur there?
A Mary Carabine b.1891 in Kilglass Ballina (the correct parish for Culleens) Father John
emigrated to Philidelphia on the Haverford from Queenstown on Sept 23 1909

editted to add: Bridget and Annie Carabine were both in Philadelphia and became naturalized
There is marraige between a Mary Carabine and a John Kehoe in 1927 and a Daniel Quinby in 1933 that may be her but would required more investigation
The marraige to John Kehoe could be correct as there is a family on the 1930 Philadelphia census that shows John bc1889 immigrated 1924 and Mary his wife bc1891 immigrated 1909 which matched previous information. They have four children boarding with them

If Mary married then her death would be registered under a different name
Kearney & Bourke/ Johns & Fox/ Mannion & Finan/ Donohoe & Curley
Byrne [Carthy], Keeffe/ Germaine, Butler/ McDermott, Giblin/ Lally, Dolan
Toole, Doran; Dowling, Grogan/ Reilly, Burke; Warren, Kidd [Lawless]/ Smith, Scally; Mangan, Rodgers/ Fahy, Calday; Staunton, Miller
Further generations:
Brophy Coleman Eathorn(e) Fahy Fitzpatrick Geraghty Haverty Keane Keogh Nowlan Rowe Walder
