Parker family from Willesden
« on: Friday 24 October 14 20:42 BST (UK) »
I'd really appreciate help with this family.

In 1901 census William Frederick Parker (a tailor born c1854 in Willesden) is show living in Hendon with wife Mary and a number of children, includig Lilian May aged 19 who is our ancestor. I'm intrigued by his wife's details. Mary is shown as being born in Cork Ireland. This is totally new information for the family who had no knowledge of an Irish branch. However, I can't find any earlier information about the family. I can't find William with his parents, or a record of his marriage to Mary (maybe in Ireland though all the children are born in London/Middlesex). There are a number of William Fredericks who may or may not be the one I'm looking for.

I'd really like to know something about Mary's family, but would also be grateful to find earlier information about William.

Thanks
\lesley

Hi Lesley

If you look for the son Townley Parker born 1889 you should find them in 1891.

RG12/8/55/14.

Perhaps you already had this as this is where Mary's Cork birthplace appears?  In 1901 they are all (inaccurately it appears) said to be born in Willesden.

Do you have Lilian May's birth cert so that you know what her mothers maiden name was?

Looks like the marriage was in the early to mid 1870's.

Thank you all for your replies. Carol - I haven't found Lilian's birth certificate - there are a few possibles (including a May Lilian) and I've been dithering about which one to send for (money being a factor here!). I think I may have to take a chance. I can't find her parents' marriage certificate either.

I'm grateful for the lds link - I didn't have it - it adds a couple of extra children for the couple and may help in the future. I do have the 1891 and 1901 censuses but can't get further back. I've recently cut my subs to ancestry only, for financial reasons, so it may be mistranscriptions are the problem.

Any help gratefully received, and again thanks to you all for your help.

This appears to be the 3 year old in 1881,maybe her birth cert would be worth getting instead?

I think this is probably my best bet. I wondered whether there were two different wives so this could answer that question - although perhaps not throwing a light on the Irish connection. Thanks again

For what it is worth, a thinly-sourced tree on Ancestry for the daughter Catherine has Mary's maiden name as Sullivan.
