Hi Cary

I checked the Ancestry entry and he is listed as Hervey Freyman. I also checked the CG Establishment Book for all the CG stations along the Grimsby coast and could find no Hervey or Henry Freyman/Fryman. I was not in the least surprised by this, since the CG Service did not come under Admiralty control until 1856, prior to this it was administered by Customs and Excise, so he should have been listed as a 'Mariner' or less likely a 'Revenue Officer', but this could be the Enumerator using the wrong terminology. However, if he was serving as a mariner on a Revenue Cruiser then he would not be shown in the CG Establishment Books in any respect, but on the particular ships Muster Roll.

I think this Henry Fryman is the son of Henry and Ann Fryman (brother to 'our' James, Cary) he married Ann Walker, no children as far as I'm aware although there was a William Crowder/Crawden aged 14 living with them in 1841.
Henry died 10th February 1847 aged 44, a notice in the Hull Packet and East Riding Times states ' February 10th of Grimsby, Mr Henry Fryman of HM cruiser LAPWING' a member of the Foward family was also serving at on the Lapwing at the same time

Hi

I think the post above by Fiona may have provided a minor breakthrough!

I checked the Musters for the Revenue Cruisers that are available online, but these only cover standing officers, not the ordinary mariners, for these it's necessary to consult the actual Muster Books at Kew (RC Lapwing ADM 119/66 and 67). However, for Lapwing I found that Samuel Forward was serving as Gunner, and that there was a Henry Hercules Fryman serving as Steward (ADM 175/24 pdf 105).

It cannot have been this Henry whose death was reported in the paper, because I then traced his service until his appointment to the Coast Guard in 1850.

Henry H Fryman was appointed as Steward to Lapwing on 11 May 1846 having previously served on her as a Mariner, he then moved to the RC Francis on 26 July 1846, then to Defence 13 Dec 1847, and finally Adder on 6 Jan 1848, from where he was appointed to the CG Service in January 1850, with a first posting to Brook on the Isle of Wight. (ADM 175/24 pdf 9)

If you wished to follow these moves yourself the ADM 175 files can be downloaded for free from the National Archives Website.

Familysearch has a marriage for Rosetta Fryer to James Page, 6th January 1840 St Clements, Hastings.
Her father Henry Fryer. James father Richard Page.

Baptism on Familysearch for a Rosetta Tryman on 12th February 1823 at All Saints, Hastings. Parents Henry and Ann Tryman. Maybe transcript error on surname.
