James Davis circa 1818

I am seeking information on the birth of James Davis born circa 1818 in Romsey, Hampshire England according to the 1861 census.  He was in Lancashire in Rochdale, Lancashire in 1861 living with Ann, listed as his wife but they did not marry till 1876 and the Register lists James father as Joseph a gardener.  This may suggest he left his first wife and was thus unable to marry till 1876.  I have the information from 1861 and would welcome any information between his birth and 1861. There's one in St Mary Southampton which I believe is near Romsey in 1841.
