Hooe location
« on: Saturday 09 August 14 04:19 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I intend visiting ancestral places in the UK next month and am hoping to find the location in Hooe for my 3x g grandfather, William FREEMAN, an ag lab, as on the 1841 & 1851 census records.

1841 census the place of residence is recorded as School Houses and 1851 it is School Farm. I would be grateful if somebody would be able to give me some clues or help to locate the area as found now.

Thanks very much
Deb

Have a look at the Old Maps site http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html

School Farm is located at Hooe Common and is shown on modern and the older maps. The 1878 map also shows the village's nearby National School.

Thanks Kay, I did see that article after I had posted my query but I shall check the oldmaps site.

Sadly I have  limited time in the UK so am keen to have some clear idea of the whereabouts of the places my ancestors lived, the churches they may have used and the churchyards in which they may be buried.
Thanks
Deb
